Hi, welcome to BusyTot!

A little corner of the internet for moms who are juggling a toddler, a long to-do list and never quite enough hours in the day.

Why BusyTot exists

Every parent of a toddler knows the moment: dinner needs cooking, an email needs sending, and a little person is tugging at your leg saying, "Mama, play?"

The internet is full of beautiful activity ideas that need a trip to the craft store, an hour of setup and a spotless kitchen afterwards. That isn't real life. BusyTot was created for the days when you have five minutes, a handful of everyday items and a toddler with endless energy.

Our goal is simple: give you clear, practical activity ideas you can start right away, so you spend less time searching and more time enjoying your child.

Our three rules

  • Low prep. Most ideas take about five minutes to set up.
  • Low cost. We use things you already have at home.
  • Screen-free. Hands-on play that builds skills and helps toddlers settle.

Who BusyTot is for

BusyTot is written for the people who spend their days with toddlers, roughly ages one to three:

  • New mothers who are discovering what to do with a curious, always-moving little one.
  • Busy moms who work from home, cook dinner with a toddler underfoot or need a quiet ten minutes.
  • Dads, grandparents and caregivers looking for easy ways to play together.
  • Parents on a budget who want great ideas without buying a shelf full of new toys.

What you'll find here

Ideas are organized so you can find the right one fast, whatever kind of day you're having.

What we believe

💚

Simple is enough

Toddlers don't need fancy toys. A cardboard box, a bowl of water or a pile of socks can be a whole afternoon of discovery.

🌟

Play is learning

Pouring, stacking, sorting and pretending build fine motor skills, language and focus, without a worksheet in sight.

🥰

No mom guilt

You are doing a great job. Some days are crafts, some days are cuddles and a movie. We're just here to give you more options.

How we create our content

We want every page on BusyTot to be genuinely useful, not just something that exists to fill a website. Here is how we work:

  • Practical first. Each activity is written step by step, with a short list of materials, so you can start right away.
  • Clear age guidance. We state the age range an idea suits and suggest ways to make it easier or harder. Children develop at different paces, so treat ages as a guide, not a test.
  • Safety checked. We flag choking hazards, water, allergies and anything that needs close supervision, and avoid ideas that rely on unsafe materials.
  • Written for people. We write in plain language, avoid filler, and organize posts with headings and short sections so they are easy to scan on a phone.
  • Kept up to date. We revisit posts when we find a clearer explanation, a safer approach or a better idea, and show the date each post was last updated.
  • Corrections welcome. If you spot a mistake or a safety concern, tell us through the contact page and we will look into it promptly.

For general information about child development, we rely on well-known public guidance such as milestone checklists from health organizations, and we encourage you to talk to your pediatrician about any questions on your own child's development.

Safety comes first

Toddlers explore with their hands and their mouths, so supervision matters more than any activity. On BusyTot we ask you to:

  • Stay within arm's reach during play, especially with water, small objects and food.
  • Check materials for choking hazards and allergies before every activity.
  • Skip any idea that doesn't feel right for your child.

How BusyTot is funded

BusyTot is free to read, and keeping it running costs time and money. To cover that, we use:

  • Display advertising, such as Google AdSense.
  • Affiliate links in some posts. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Ads and affiliate links never decide what we write. We only recommend products we believe are useful, and we always say when a link is an affiliate link. You can read how we handle data in our Privacy Policy.

Meet the person behind BusyTot

🧸

Hi, I'm Fatima, the creator and writer of BusyTot.

I started this site to share simple, practical play ideas for busy parents of toddlers: activities that need very little preparation, use things you already have at home and don't rely on screens.

I write about indoor play, sensory and learning activities, ideas for everyday moments like car rides and cooking time, age-by-age guides and outdoor fun through the seasons. I research each topic, follow general guidance from reputable child-development sources, and write every idea so you can try it straight away.

I'm not a doctor or a child development specialist, and BusyTot is not medical advice. It's a place for friendly, practical ideas you can adapt to your own child. If you have a question or an idea you'd love to see, please get in touch. I read every message.

Frequently asked questions

What age are your activities for?

Most ideas are written for toddlers between about 12 months and 3 years old. Each post says which ages it suits, and our age-specific category groups ideas by stage.

Do I need to buy special supplies?

No. We focus on items you probably already have at home, like cardboard boxes, kitchen tools, tape, paper and pantry items. When a product really helps, we say so and keep it simple and affordable.

We flag hazards and supervision needs in each post, but every child is different. You know your child best, so always supervise and use your own judgment. Please see our Disclaimer.

Is BusyTot medical or developmental advice?

No. BusyTot shares general play ideas. It is not a substitute for advice from your pediatrician or another qualified professional.
